What a book!
THE CROSSOVER by Kwame Alexander.
If you haven't read this newest Newbery winner, Margaret Simon's post does contain a spoiler alert.
If you have read it and loved it as I did, CLICK ON OVER THERE and see how the book worked as a class read-aloud.
Oh my goodness, such a moving a book. Everything a Newbery winner should be.
And if somehow you missed his wonderful GIFT to teachers and librarians everywhere, here's Kwame Alexander's book trailer.
Okay, not exactly a book trailer. Just an opportunity to get to know him and that amazing book. Which I loved. In case you wondered.
All of this talk about sad books stems from a Nerdy Book folks' post about BOOKS THAT MAKE US CRY.
The book is touching a lot of young readers. CLICK HERE for a review by one of them.
Fantastic. Just fantastic.
Thanks for the pingback. I just got home from my first ever SCBWI conference and editor critique. I wish I could sit next to you on the plane and chat about it. We all should chase our dreams!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so glad you loved this one, too, Augusta. And I have to admit, since I'm not a die-hard basketball fan, I didn't expect to love it, but I did!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link and the trailer. I'm off to GReads to add it to my TBR list!
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to reading this book! As soon as I finish reading all the Whitney Finalists by April 30th. Only 4 more to go! Gulp. :-)
ReplyDeleteKimberley- I feel for you! Hard having a reading deadline.
ReplyDeleteAnd what fun, Margaret, to talk about dreams. Oh yes.
I am a basketball fan, but mostly limit my watching to the team I love. (Go Tarheels!) But I agree, Linda- this book has a wide and deep audience.
Thanks for your comments.
I read about this book on Michelle H. Barnes blog and picked it up at the library. I'm not a basketball fan, but thought it would be interesting to look at a few of the poems. Could. Not. Put. It. Down!!! I love every word and I cried like a baby at the end. I wrote about this one on my blog this week as well. Glad to see the word being spread.
