Books -- reading and writing.

Hello, Nancy.

My era (and Glory's!) Nancy Drew books.
Okay, maybe these are a tad before 1964, but can you believe we loved these stories?
Don't you love how she's pointedly pointing to the mantel...

*Love* Nancy and read her voraciously in elementary school. I've saved all my copies, even the old first editions I *inherited* accidentally from my orthodotist's nurse. Am I lucky or what?

I actually read that very story -- Secret of the Old Clock -- this spring. Was rearranging books in my living room and came across my collection (from an estate sale) of the original Nancys. Reading it was such fun -- took me right back to my youth!

Funny how Nancy touched so many readers. I actually tried to reread recently and was puzzled by what drew me to her stories obsessively. (Certainly not all those adverbs!)

I think perhaps it was reading such a grownup story, and I was only 9 or 10 myself. Plus, come to think of it, she was quite a good role model for the feisty girls and women some of us love to read about now!
